For my girls we will be creating a lantern, dragons, and of course snakes. Another fun/practical idea is to have the kiddos help with cleaning. Have you kids help you sweep the bad luck out of the house! They have fun, you get a clean house!
Also if you live in the bay area and want to go see the SF parade, it will be held February 23rd at 5:15pm. Their website has all the information about the parade such as the route, times, what channels it will be shown on tv, etc. www.chineseparade.com
I know I will definitely be watching it at home with my girls rather than go to the parade, too crazy for me! Oh and ordering some yummy Chinese food, I just can not get enough Won Ton Soup and sweet & sour pork!
